SkinSkin, also known as the epidermis, is the human body's largest organ. Skin is what protects us from all the dangers lurking outside our body such as pathogens and bacteria. Our skin is also the home of our nerve endings which send the signals to the brain of touch, pressure, vibration, and the sensation of temperatures. Our cardiovascular system routes our blood vessels through the skin, carrying oxygen rich blood throughout our body. |
Jewelry
Jewelry is a fascinating fashion accessory that has been popular since ancient times. He has played a variety of roles including political, religious and ornamental, and jewelry artefacts have helped shape modern paintings of the historians of the daily lives of ancient civilizations.
Women jewelry in ancient Rome is no exception. There are literary accounts and painting illustrated by example in the Regina tombstone, plus an abundance of other artefacts available that help us understand the role jewelry played during this fascinating time.
The jewelry was worn by men and women but was subject to the conventions of time, particularly as regards the aspect of men. The men's jewelry was typically practical in nature. Men usually wore a single ring. The ring would serve a functional purpose. Typically a signet ring, the masculine article of jewelry was used to seal official documentation. Men's signet ring was initially iron but was later produced in gold as it displayed status and wealth more clearly.
Other practical applications signet ring included the inlay was a kind of key to a safe. The literary evidence suggests that the property with respect to men's jewelry was ignored by a minority of fans the way, as with any other social group. Trends and attitudes also changed from the Emperor Augustus. The emperors were established with official state clothing during his reign which included jewelry as a display of status and power.
The jewelry also had a protective function in ancient Rome. The boys wore an item of jewelry known as bullah. This was used to being a baby. It was worn around the neck and was a string with a bag that contained an amulet. This was a jewelry item worn by most classes, but the rich upper class had bullahs made of gold. The amulet was often phallic in design, as the boys considered to be the stronger species and so needed protection. Another item of jewelry worn by the boys was a small ring of gold which was again carved with a phallus for good luck.
Regarding women, the jewelry was primarily a display of wealth and status. Women had no obvious status distinction through their dress like Roman men. Therefore, hairstyles and jewelry were the only distinction possible. The importance of jewelry to the status of women is evident in certain historical events. When the law was passed in 195BC Oppian containing the use of hand your jewelry and suggesting it for war materials, women demonstrated against this in the streets. During the campaigns of Marcus Curellius, women chose to donate their gold jewelry to get enough to send a huge gold vase as an offering to Delphi. His behavior was rewarded with speeches at funerals which had previously been only for men.
The type and amount of jewelry worn by women varied, but the richest women were the most ostentatious in terms of quantity and style. Amber jewelry was used only for lower-class women and was thought vulgar by the wealthy who favored gold jewelry. Other items made the jewelry includes pearls, colored glass beads and polished stones. These would be inserted in gold and would vary in size and style, depending on state. It was possible to talk about a woman in ancient Rome by the jewelry she wore.
The types of jewelry worn include necklaces with adornments such as pendants, amulets. The fibula that are similar to safety pins were used as fasteners and decorated so often to make a piece of jewelry that was a function and beautiful. The earrings were popular and came in hoop and drop styles. Rings were usually inset with stones or carvings.
Particularly popular items of jewelry (joias) were engraved gems which were referred to as size. These were gems such as carnelian, jasper and chalcedony that had a sink or recorded image, created with the use of wheels and drills.
The results of jewelry from the tomb suggest that the bracelets were used usually in pairs with one on each arm. Some tombs have revealed up to 7 items of jewelry in each arm which shows how conventions differ for men and women. They even found the nets of gold thread.
We Won a Dance Competition
Last years New Year was wonderful. Me and my husband decided to join a dance
competition. We weren't the best dancers, but we thought it would be a fun
experience. We decided to try out salsa dancing for the competition.the competition.
Me and my husband went to dancing school for a couple weeks before we entered the
dance competition. The competition lasted from 9 P.M. to midnight on New Years
Eve. It was full of different things to do, there was a lot of food and we got
to watch everyone else dance as well. It was located downtown at a very fancy
ballroom.
When it was almost our turn to show off what we had learned my heart was
pounding. My husband kept trying to calm me down but I was scared that I was
going to mess up. We had only been salsa dancing for a couple of weeks and
everyone else at the competition seemed so confident when they were dancing. I
would have assumed that they had been dancing for years.
It was finally our turn to get in front of everyone and dance. I faked a smile
to the crowd and started our routine. At first I was unsure, but after a couple
of minutes I really got into the music and me and my husband were doing
wonderful. We had gotten every move down! Now the last move was about to come,
he was supposed to spin me around and my legs were supposed to go into the air.
Somehow he had messed up and I went flying into the air before I knew it! He
caught me and everyone clapped.
The audience had thought that was part of our routine. I was so shocked and
happy, I couldn't stop laughing. Me and my husband ended up getting second place
in the competition. People were complementing my grace in the air and I couldn't
help but smile. The New Years dancing competition ending up being one of the
most exciting events of my life. Of course me and my husband sealed the night
off by kissing at midnight.

Skin, also known as the epidermis, is the human body's largest organ.
Our skin has three layers. The top layer, the one we can see, is called the epidermis. This is the barrier that keeps infection out. This is why it is important to carefully monitor cuts and scrapes for signs of infection. The second layer is the dermis. The dermis is where our ability to feel touch and heat is seated. The hypodermis serves one purpose, to attach the skin to our bones and muscles.
Caring for the skin is important. We must protect ourselves from skin cancer caused from too much sun exposure. Yet we must also allow our bodies to absorb enough vitamin D from the sunlight every day. We must keep our skin clean, otherwise we leave ourselves open to infections and illness. When we cut ourselves, we must use man made barriers such as bandages to keep infections out.
Our skin tone is decided by the pigment in our skin. The more melanin in your skin, the darker your skin tone. When we spend too much time in the sun, our body cannot make melanin fast enough to protect us from the UV rays and our body burns. This is and the danger of skin cancer is why sun block is important. Protecting our skin is the first step to staying healthy.

Wigs
There are two methods of attaching hair to wigs. The first and oldest is to weave the root ends of the hair onto a warp of three silk threads to form a sort of fringe called a "weft". The wefts are then sewn to a foundation made of net or other material. In modern times, the wefts can also be made with a specially adapted sewing machine, reducing the amount of hand labour involved.
In the 19th century another method came into use. A small hook called a "ventilating needle", similar to the tambour hooks used for decorating fabric with chain-stitch embroidery at that period, is used to knot a few strands of hair at a time directly to a suitable foundation material. This newer method produces a lighter and more natural looking wig. High quality custom wigs, and those used for film and theatrical productions are usually done this way. It is also possible to combine the two techniques, using weft for the main part of the wig and ventilating hair at the edges and partings to give a fine finish. Producing and selling wigs are huge business, if you are an actor or just a bald man you should stop by at one of the places with wigs for sale and find the right hair for you.
